King Street Arts presents Curiosities, by American multi-disciplinary artist Kate Eggleston-Wirtz whose 3-D sculptures are created from found and symbolic materials.
This exhibition showcases the artist’s creative journey with objects beginning with the very first pieces created at university (1982), artworks constructed since moving to the UK (1997) plus recent works, some inspired by local historic materials.
Kate was formally trained as an illustrator thus, there is a narrative quality to her visual work that is often accompanied by original poetic text.
Her experiences of growing up in the Chicago suburbs, living in Seattle, the UK and Turkey along with an Artist’s Residency in France has influenced her work that often focuses on place and identity.
Kate has a strong sense of kinship with the Surrealists, adopting the creative channelling of the unconscious, use of juxtaposition and the acquisition of objects through happenstance.
Be curious. These works are meant to be explored.
