Discovering the Collage Process
A Talk on Creativity, Texture, and Design
Join me for an engaging and personal insight into the creative world of collage. In this talk, I’ll explore how my collages come to life - from the spark of inspiration on a walk, to the mood of a moment, to the unpredictable beauty of a gelli-print.
I’ll share what I love about collage: the contrast between crisp edges and torn textures, the boldness of flat shapes that echo screen-prints, and the intuitive way patterns and impressions form something more than realism. You'll get a behind-the-scenes look at how I create my own collage papers using different techniques on a gelli-plate to create random textures, and how I develop compositions from sketches and photos, through play and experiment.
We’ll look at different base materials and the advantages of each. I'll also talk about working on multiple pieces at once, keeping colours in harmony, and the moment I know a piece is finished.
Whether you're a fellow artist or simply curious about collage, this talk will offer a fresh perspective on a layered, tactile, and endlessly surprising art form.
At King Street Arts we aim to offer workshops which focus on exploring and developing our understanding and awareness of some of the methods involved in being creative. This can include the acquisition of practical skills and a basic understanding of the materials to be used in the workshop sessions. Our workshops also encourage participants to discover and appreciate that as being individuals we each have a unique set of skills, abilities, and awareness based on our personal life experiences. This uniqueness can and will contribute to the evolving of our own approach and process in realizing creative outcomes.
